Notocactus magnificus

This was Jim Lewis' well grown plant of Notocactus magnificus in the Parodia class in the show. (Yes, we know we should call this Parodia magnifica these days, but this is middle England!)

The reason the plant is included is that it is an unfashionable show plant. This plant was beaten by a Parodia which was not so old and not in such good condition. Not that the owner will be complaining about the judging. That plant was the Ed's.

Another unfashionable plant is Echinocactus grusonii. When exhibited in the Echinocactus class it needs to be twice as good as a Ferocactus and even quite moderate Leuchtenbergias seems to sail past them both! (Memo: must get another Leuchtenbergia.)
