Local member Jim Lewis also grew this plant of Melocactus azureus exhibited in the 'One cactus' class in the show. It shows how good the competition was that Jim only gained a 'commended' for the plant. Jim bought it in 1984 from Jumanery and commented that perhaps it was a bit young! Normal greenhouse temperatures are too low for this Brazilian species and Jim brings it indoors for the winter
