At a recent Cactus Explorers’ weekend our friend Ian Robinson gave an entertaining talk on his trip to Argentina and showed this surreal landscape in the Ischigualsto National Park (left).

Of course some wag-at-the-back said ‘Better than Copiapoas’ which raised a laugh. We all knew what he meant and the comparison image of Copiapoa columna-alba (right) was kindly supplied by Ian Woolnough from his trip to Chile.

Thanks to both Ians.

Right: The Ed and Sue were lucky enough to go to Baja California this Spring. (That’s in Mexico in case you have forgotten.) We rented a boat to see wonderful plants of Ferocactus gracilis var. gatesii on its island habitat. This one however, was a cheat - it was in a pot right outside the door at our hotel.

Left: Richard (the captain of the Ed’s bridge team) visited Peru and captured this image of an imposing Puya raimondi at Huaraz. But did he see any cacti? No, only this one.(!)

Finally...

Pam and Don visited the Galapagos Islands, (lucky devils), on a bird watching trip They brought back this picture of a cactus finch’s nest (left) and the giant Opuntia echios (right) which is its home.
