The holiday snaps NN reporters |
When our friends go on holiday they are encouraged to snap some ‘cacti’ (I use the term loosely) seen on their visit. Here are some snaps from what I have loosely called the NN reporters...

Peter and Marion Rixon were lucky enough to visit the Jardin de Cactus in Lanzarote and here we see Peter at the gates (above). You will notice that it has a cereus motif that would grace any cactophiles front drive. This was one of Jack Bramhill’s favourite gardens and he has written of it before. Among Peter’s pictures was this superb Espostoa (right) which would win a first at any of our National Shows in the Espostoa subgroup. Carrying it would be a problem though! |
Ah, memories of summer... The picture (left) shows the scene of destruction in the Ed’s garden when a mini-tornado struck an hour before the branch BBQ. The sun didn’t come out but at least it stopped raining and two hours later I took the picture on the right. A fun occasion. That gazebo was never the same again, though. |
Skip also noticed the small balls of wool which are Austrocylindropuntia floccosus (left). (Yes, the Ed thought they could be baby Oreocereus.) Martin explained that they were ‘depauperate’ specimens which is a long word for ‘poor’ and supplied two pictures (below) of some superb specimens from his holiday snaps. Thanks Martin. |
