Jack’s favourite plant

The plant that caught my eye was the Agave parryi patonii variegata, which was 2nd in class 63, (one Agave Group, 18” pot), entered by Keith and Kathy Flanagan.

Gentry, whose organisation of the genus based solely on floral characteristics, suggests that the variety should be known as truncata which is found in the Mexican state of  Durango.  Agave parryi is among the most cold hardy of the Agaves and this variety can tolerate temperatures as low as - 9ºC.

Agave parryi was a source of mescal – chewed or drunk in an infusion as an intoxicant. It is a common species in cultivation owing to its cold hardiness, excellent form and quick and easy propagation. This variegated form is especially attractive.

(T.W) It is a funny thing but this plant featured on three of the picture CDs taken by NMK members. So; who has a cutting to spare?
